Jason Cermak, profiled last week on Stand-In Central as a stand-in for Matthew McConaughey on the blockbuster space film Interstellar, wasn’t the only person to stand in for McConaughey on the film. While Jason stood in for McConaughey on a Canadian set, on an Interstellar set in California, James Henderson stood in for the film’s lead actor.
As it turns out, James Henderson has stood in for a number of Hollywood’s leading actors. Recently, Yahoo! Movies profiled James in an interview as part of its “Below the Line” series, in which he spoke of his experiences working as “Hollywood’s leading stand-in.” James has an Internet Movie Database entry to support that title, having stood in for Bradley Cooper, Daniel Craig, Ryan Gosling, Jude Law, Chris Pine, Brad Pitt, and Chris Pratt — to name just a few leading men.
In the interview, James talks not only of standing in for actors in movies, but also reading off-camera dialogue as well as photo-doubling — that is, appearing on camera in some capacity as if he were the actor, whether it be with a body part like a hand or in silhouette. James speaks about the personalities of particular directors and actors with whom he’s worked, not to mention his experiences standing in on Interstellar, notably his experiences in a spacesuit which served as color cover for the camera setups.
