David Jansen worked for seven years as a stand-in on the FX television series Sons of Anarchy. The News-Press, a newspaper in the area of Fort Myers, Florida, recently interviewed him about his experience on the show.
“We will do exactly what the actor does for lighting purposes,” explained David about the function of a stand-in on a television show. “Basically what a stand-in does is they try and get the person who has the same hair, skin tone, hair, when the actor rehearses the scene.”
David’s experience standing in began in the summer of 1996 when he stood in on the film Hoodlum, shot in Chicago, a gig that eventually led to a role as a doorman and to his getting into the Screen Actors Guild. Moving to Los Angeles in 1998, David worked at a staff management company before signing up with Central Casting ten years later. It was only three weeks before he began working on Sons of Anarchy. David’s work on the show eventually led to his being upgraded to a principal role in the third season of the seven-season series.
