Toronto Life recently ran an article on Holly Cinnamon. In addition to working as an actor and musician, Holly has stood in for actor Sarah Snook on HBO’s popular series Succession.
In the article, Holly shares some of the unusual circumstances that led her to landing the stand-in job amid the first year of the pandemic.
She also shares how much confidentiality there was around the most recent season, including the use of nondisclosure agreements (NDAs), codenames within scripts, and even shooting strategy to throw off media from figuring out major plot points.
Detail-Oriented Stand-In Work
In the article, Holly shares some of the detail work required of her as a stand-in:
We watch the principal actors run through the scene in rehearsal. They might discuss the arc or the flow of what’s happening with the writers or the director, and then they’ll step off set to get hair and makeup done or grab something to eat. We work with the camera and lighting teams to help them figure out angles and how to best shoot the scene. They might ask me, “How far was Shiv leaning forward in this scene? At what point did she get up and walk across the room? Which way was she facing when she delivered this important line?” Succession has a lot of rapid camera movement, so it’s an important part of the process.
Additional Opportunities
From the article, we learn that Holly did not simply work as a stand-in on Succession. She was also a photo double for Snook, and even landed a principal performer role on the series!
