By no means does Stand-In Central have a solid answer on this question. What question is that?

When it comes to explaining your height to a casting director for consideration of work as a TV/film stand-in, what does your height actually represent?

For example, when you state your height,

  • Is that your height barefoot?
  • Is that your height in footwear?
  • If it is your height in footwear, how much of that height comes from the footwear (e.g., the sole of the shoe, any lift of the heel, etc.)?
  • Is your height effectively an estimate?
  • Does your stated height change depending on the specific job?

As for the Editor of Stand-In Central, originally his height was gleaned not so much by measurement but by comparison with someone else who was slightly shorter and who stated his own height. Also, the Editor’s stated height assumes he is wearing shoes with about a one-inch sole. Effectively, he is shorter than his stated height, but that stated height can be reached by wearing shoes and possibly adding lifts to those shoes.
