When you are standing in for the first time on a television show or film, you might hear the terms “first team” and “second team.”

What do they mean?

“First Team”

The term “first team” refers to the principal actors on the shoot.

Stars, supporting actors, and in some contexts even background actors are considered “first team.”

However, usually the term “first team” refers only to the principal actors working that day. Usually that means the actors who speak, rather than the background actors.

“Second Team”

The term “second team” refers to the stand-ins for the principal actors.

In many television shows and feature films, if there is a principal actor, there is also a stand-in for that principal actor.
